School admission appeals timetable

A new School Admission Appeals Code was published by the Department for Education on 1 February 2012.  The Code came into force from 1 February 2012 and it applies to all appeals lodged on or after that date.  The Code imposes a timetable for organising and hearing school admission appeals 

In year entry appeals
Appeals resulting from in year admission applications will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.  

Offer Date : 1st March 2012

Appeals to be lodged by: 29th March 2012

Appeals to be heard by: 18th June 2012 (40 school days)

Appeals lodged after these dates will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is the later date.

Sixth Form
Where the offer of a place would have been conditional upon exam results, appeals must be heard within 30 school days of confirmation of those results. 

Where the offer of a place would not have been conditional upon exam results, appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals.

Notification to Parents
You will receive 10 school days notice of the time and date of the appeal hearing.  This can be waived if everyone agrees.
You will receive a statement a week before your appeal hearing outlining why your child has not been offered a place and why the school is unable to admit another pupil.
Any additional documents you wish to submit in support of your appeal must be sent to the clerk within 3 days of the appeal hearing.  Failure to do this may result in your appeal hearing being adjourned.
